Never mind the nitpicky detail that it's the short cut of the film that's actually the "International Version" - I'll be picking this up. Congratulations to Magnolia for not being complete idiots. It's all too rare to see something pertaining to Asian cinema handled correctly by an American company.

Now watch, just because I said that, it'll have closed captions instead of subtitles or some other sort of idiocy along those lines.

Re: John Woo introduces ‘Red Cliff’

I admire the inherent optimism here, it's touching... but optimism and the discussion of Chinese/Hong Kong cinema releases in the US don't mix. It's safe to assume we're getting screwed, because we almost always get screwed. There's nothing whatsoever on the Six Shooter Film Series website, or the Magnolia website, or the Magnet website, or the American RED CLIFF website about the PPV version being the uncut two-film version. Only one film named RED CLIFF has been rated by the MPAA, and we already know the short cut is rated R. Admittedly, the real version might very well go unrated as there's no plans to send it to theaters. There's also nothing about Red Cliff Part II on Fancast.com, either. You'd think that if they were running Part I that they'd at least have a date for Part II but if they do, they've hidden it quite well.

I hope it really is the uncut version but that seems exceedingly unlikely. More likely someone at Fancast.com got confused and entered the wrong title.

Re: John Woo introduces ‘Red Cliff’

My current understanding is that Magnolia is releasing the shortened version in select theaters while the longer cut will be made available to audiences at home, either through VOD or DVD.

Re: John Woo introduces ‘Red Cliff’

So this won't be the significantly shortened version? I saw the full version and don't understand how any of that could have been left out, except maybe for some of the love stories...

Re: John Woo introduces ‘Red Cliff’

His English is fine. No need to sub it. -_- But at least Tarantino is not mentioned once in that clip...
