I must admit I was pretty disappointed by The One-Armed Magic Nun. To be fair, I undoubtedly had unrealistic expectations based on my love of Suet Nei and the cool sounding title. It's nowhere near as good as Chan Lit-ban's mid-60s films. Lui Kei, who gets most of the screen time, is totally unsuited for wuxia films. And the film's cheap sets look even cheaper in color than they would have in black and white. Finally, the copy I saw (which is probably the one you saw) is a Mandarin dub, so I didn't even get the pleasure of hearing Suet Nei's distinctive voice. It's true... I was totally crushed. Nevertheless, there are some cool scenes like the one you posted above!

Yeah, I found this on eBay, a homemade copy of a Mandarin-dubbed version. I liked Chan Lit-bun's earlier films (and plan to post more reviews) but this was awfully old-fashioned. Suet Nei's performance was the most fun part of the film, and she didn't really show up until the last half hour.

i'm more interested in the content. I've never seen this before so the idea of a one-armed nun sounds delightfully entertaining to me. Cheap-ass sets and silly costumes is what I like in these kung fu films. Like Ninja: The Final Duel!!!!!! :)
